Trip to Delhi

Updated: Apr 8, 2021

During Covid19 days, what we miss the most is travelling. Some vacations and travel leaves in us everlasting memories. One such vacation was our

visit to the capital of Our Country, Delhi.

Summer vacation in Kuwait falls between the months June to August every year. During this time, when we visit our family, we also select one interesting place which we never visited before. Our vacation to Delhi was the most unforgettable. We really enjoyed the way the capital of our country treated us. There is a lot to see and we need to ensure we have ample time to ensure we cover every historical place in and around the city.

Delhi which is officially called the National Capital Territory is not just the Capital of our country India but also a Union Territory. Haryana and Uttar Pradesh are closest neighbors to Delhi. Delhi has been the capital for many empires and kingdoms like Pandavas, Delhi Sultanate and most importantly Mughals and it is also the most inhabited place since 6th century BC.

Having a rich history explains the cultural significance of the place and its impact on the city over all.

Dilli Dilwalon Ki (Delhi Belongs to the large hearted / daring people)

We landed in Delhi on June 15th 2018 and the temperature was a steaming 37 Degree Celsius. But this didn’t curb our excitement to enjoy our stay at the capital of our country. We stayed at Eros International Hotel in Nehru Place Delhi. The service was so good and we felt so cozy and comfortable.

Since it was very first visit for me and my son Aditya, we felt overwhelmed to see the capital. We waited eagerly for sunrise, to ensure we visit all important monuments and places. Since my husband was raised in Delhi, he was reminiscing his past and feeling quiet nostalgic. The very first task he took on himself was to visit the Kareem’s and buy his favorite Kebabs. Karim’s located near Jama Masjid in Old Delhi, is one of the oldest and most famous restaurant in Delhi, dating back to 1913, now run by the fourth generation in the family.

Delhi is filled with interesting places to eat and to visit. It has a rich history and being the capital of the country, the city has maintained the culture and tradition. The city is kept very clean and beautiful.

Following day, we visited Lotus Temple. It is a prominent attraction in the city, due to its flower like architecture. It was dedicated for Baha’i house of worship in 1986. This temple is open for all, irrespective of religion. So peaceful and quiet and the structure is truly jaw dropping and you need to experience to enjoy it.

We later visited the India Gate. The prominence of visiting this place is that, it is a memorial for over 13,000 soldiers of British India who lost their lives during World War I and the Third Afghan War. The monument is 42meters high and arch shaped built by Edwin Lutyens. It was earlier referred to as “All India War Memorial”.

We also visiting, Red Fort, Jama Masjid, Qutub Minar, Humayun’s Tomb, Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The Red Fort and Jama Masjid is located in Old Delhi where we find some scrumptious food that we can enjoy. We visited the Haldiram’s in Chandni Chowk.

They have all kinds of sweets, savories and refreshments like Lassi and Badam Milk.

Additionally, we didn’t want to miss the opportunity to visit the famous Connaught Place and Lajpat Nagar known for street food and Shopping for Souvenirs and beautiful clothes. We shopped until we dropped.

The capital of India, offers many interesting places to see and visit and enjoy. We surely need a good one weeks’ time to enjoy ourselves and see everything. Definitely a must for all.

One of our best vacations we had as a family.
